The CAP-4 Paulistinha is a two-seat trainer aircraft produced by the Brazilian manufacturer Companhia Aeronáutica Paulista .
History and construction
The CAP-4 Paulistinha was a military and civilian trainer aircraft that was built in Brazil in the 1930s and 1940s. It was originally built by Empresa Aeronáutica Ypiranga (EAY) as an unlicensed copy of the Taylor Cub and powered by a Salmson 9AD radial engine. External features of the high-wing aircraft are the braced and braced wings, two closed tandem seats, a tubular steel fuselage with fabric covering and a non-retractable tail wheel landing gear.
EAY had built five copies before it was taken over by Companhia Aeronáutica Paulista (CAP) in 1942 . CAP continued to manufacture the machine under the name CAP-4 .
The aircraft was very successful, so that around 840 pieces were produced for the flying clubs of Brazil, the Brazilian armed forces and for export to Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Uruguay and Portugal. Production reached its peak in 1943, with one machine leaving the production halls every day.
In 1956 the Sociedade Aeronáutica Neiva acquired the rights to the production and developed the aircraft further as the Neiva P-56 Paulistinha .
