The Club Athlétique Renaissance Aiglon Brazzaville is a sports club based in the capital of the Republic of the Congo , which is particularly known for its men's soccer team . This attracted international attention when in 1974 in the course of the African Cup of Champions Club - the forerunner of the CAF Champions League - the defending champion AS Vita Club was defeated in the second round and then surprisingly in the finals against Ghazl El-Mehalla from Egypt won. The most famous CARA player was François M'Pelé .

The women's handball division should also be emphasized , with players reaching the final of the African Women's Handball Champions League in 1983 and the final of the African Women's Handball Cup Winners' Cup in 1989 . In the latter competition, they have so far secured third place twice, most recently in 2005.
