CCA Glasgow

The Center for Contemporary Arts - CCA Glasgow is a center for arts and culture founded in 1992 in Glasgow, Scotland . The CCA hosts contemporary art exhibitions , music performances, performing arts and film screenings .

After it was founded in 1992, the CCA used the McLellan Galleries, built in 1855 at 270 Sauchiehall Street in central Glasgow, for the first nine years .

The CCA is now located at 350 Sauchiehall Street on the corner of Scott Street in a listed building complex. The three-story building was designed in 1865 under the name Grecian Chambers by Alexander 'Greek' Thomson as a shop building in the style of the " Egyptian Revival ". The building was remodeled in 1999-2001 by the architects Page & Park, the cost of the renovation of £ 10.5 million was borne by funds from the Scottish Arts Council Lottery Fund . The interior of the CCA Bar in the atrium of the building was designed by Jorge Pardo , and borrows from the psychedelic style of the 1960s with bright colors and curved wooden surfaces . The CCA at the new location was opened in October 2001.

Every year, the CCA hosts an average of six large changing exhibitions. In the movie theater, which can accommodate 75 viewers films of independent cinema shown as well as experimental and historical films. In addition, there are five separable performance and exhibition rooms in the CCA, a room for education and art mediation, rental space for artists and a studio apartment for invited artists.
