Jorge Pardo (artist)

Jorge Pardo (* 1963 in Havana ) is a contemporary Cuban-American artist.

Life

At the age of six, Jorge Pardo moved to the USA with his family. Today he lives in New York City and Mérida, Mexico.

In his work he deals with the achievements of classical modernism, design history and architecture. In 2000 he designed, among other things, the interiors of the Dia Center for the Arts in New York City and took over the color design of the bridge of the Pratteln motorway service station . In 2002 he created a room installation made of spherical lamps for the restaurant in the Paul-Löbe-Haus in Berlin . The bar at the Kaiserteich in the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf was completely designed by him and was renamed PARDO-Bar after it was taken over by a new restaurateur in 2012.

His home at 4166 Sea View Lane in the Mount Washington Hills district of Los Angeles is also a work of art, the construction of which was sponsored by the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and temporarily served as its branch.

In 2010 he became a MacArthur Fellow . In 2012 he won the competition for the interior design of the new Leipzig provost church .

He calls Pardo's studio and company Jorge Pardo Sculpture.
