Leukocyte surface antigen CD47 is a surface protein from the group of cell adhesion molecules .

properties

CD47 binds thrombospondin-1 on platelets . It is glycosylated and phosphorylated .

meaning

The expression of CD47 signals "don't eat me". It protects intact body cells from attack by macrophages . However, it is also expressed by malignant lymphoma and leukemia cells and thus reduces the body's own tumor defense. HU5F9-G4 (formerly 5F9) is an antibody that blocks CD47. In a phase 1 study, HU5F9-G4 in combination with rituximab showed promising activity when used in patients with malignant lymphoma. Further studies must be awaited before clinical application.
