CD79b (synonymous with B-cell antigen receptor complex -associated protein β-chain ) is a surface protein and is involved in the humoral immune response .
properties
CD79b is produced by B cells . It binds to CD79a and is connected to it by disulfide bridges . Two of these heterodimers bind to membrane-bound antibodies of the subtypes m IgM or m IgD and thus form the B-cell receptor (BCR) to which antigens bind. CD79b enhances the phosphorylation of CD79a. Following antigen binding, the antigen-antibody BCR is endocytosed . CD79b is glycosylated . It has an intracellular ITAM motif which, after activation of the BCR, binds the protein kinases Syk or Lyn and is phosphorylated by them.
Certain CD79b genetic defects are associated with some form of agammaglobulinaemia .
