According to its statutes, the self-declared goals are to expand cooperation among its members and to exert influence on national and international authorities so that they recognize and support the art film industry, as well as the circulation and distribution of films that it considers to be of high quality, to expand. In addition, the CICAE tries to make special films and the entire art film industry more popular through cultural initiatives and publications.

The association also organizes workshops that are aimed primarily at film art cinema operators and managers and are intended to impart the know-how to manage and maintain art house cinemas and to set up an appropriate program.

CICAE Art Cinema Award

Similar to the FIPRESCI Film Critics Association ( FIPRESCI Prize ), the CICAE is represented at numerous international film festivals with its own prize. It presents the CICAE Art Cinema Award as part of these festivals. These include the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes, the Berlinale and the Venice International Film Festival .
