Te III No. 161 of the VHB

The Te III is a shunting tractor that was obtained from the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and some Swiss private railways between 1941 and 1952. A total of 25 vehicles were produced.

This type of vehicle was initially referred to by private railways as the Ce 2/2 locomotive. These locomotives only differed in the additional built-in air brake. However, this was retrofitted to the shunting tractors of the SBB. The vehicles delivered later also differ in some details, as the first vehicles were built during the shortage of materials of the Second World War . The two-axle vehicle has two sets of wheels connected by coupling rods, which are driven by a pawl bearing motor . The engine has an output of 250 to 257 kW.

vehicles

The first SBB Te III were numbered 101–106 when they were delivered, which was changed to 121–126 in 1942. The SBB 127-136 were also delivered brand new.

The Te 137 is the Ce 2/2 163 delivered to the United Huttwil-Bahnen (VHB) in 1945 , which was taken over by the SBB in 1956. This vehicle was sold to the Emmental-Burgdorf-Thun-Bahn (EBT) in 1968, where it was discontinued as Ce 2/2 122. In return, the Sensetalbahn (STB) Te 11 was taken over and discontinued under this number. The VHB initially owned two Ce 2/2, the numbers 162 and 163, after the sale of the 163 and the redesignation of the EBT vehicle, the 162 was redesignated as 161 in 1963.

The Oensingen-Balsthal-Bahn OeBB acquired three new Ce 2/2 in 1944 and 1947, which they classified with the numbers 101-103. In 1958, the SBB took over the Ce 2/2 101 from the (OeBB) and classified it as the Te 138.

The Swiss Southeast Railway (SOB) procured a Te III in 1943, which they classified as No. 31.

The EBT procured a brand-new vehicle, this was put into operation as Ce 2/2 161 in 1945, but given the number 121 in 1963. In the same year, EBT took over the two Ce 2/2 1–2 from Chemins de fer du Jura (CJ), which were delivered in 1952. In 1974, the EBT renamed the now four Ce 2/2 121–124 in their possession to Te III, and in 1999/2000 it became Te 216 301–304 (VHB Te 161 as 216 305).
