CK Vulpeculae (Nova 1670 Vulpeculae) is an astronomical phenomenon observed in 1670 in the constellation Fox . The first discoverer was the monk Voituret Anthelme, but the phenomenon was also discovered independently of Johannes Hevelius . At first it was suspected that it was a classic nova . Recent research explains the phenomenon by the collision of two stars, a brown dwarf and a ten times larger white dwarf . The element lithium and organic molecules such as formaldehyde , methanol and methanamide are found in the mist . These are destroyed in an environment in which nuclear fusion takes place and were probably brought into the nebula by the brown dwarf.
