CMX , carboxymethyldethia-CoA, is a synthetic acetyl-CoA analogue. It is an inhibitor of the citrate synthase of the citric acid cycle .
The chemical structure of the CMX is very similar to that of Acetyl-CoA. Instead of acetyl-CoA, it is bound to citrate synthase as a coenzyme . There, however, it cannot develop the biochemically necessary effect, as a result of which the enzyme function is prevented.
