CODE24
CODE24 refers to a completed EU funding project with which the transport axis from the North Sea port of Rotterdam to the Mediterranean - port of Genoa along the trans-European rail link (TEN-T) with the number "24" was improved and developed from 2010 to 2015 . CODE24 also promoted economic development and took the spatial development of the region into account. The project was approved as one of a total of 30 transport projects within the framework of Interreg IVB NWE , the "Edition IV b of the EU funding program INTERREG for Northwest Europe". The total budget was 6,696,755 euros.
About half of the European north-south rail freight traffic, around 700 million tonnes annually, is to be transported via traffic corridor 24 via Rotterdam / Antwerp - Duisburg - Basel - Lyon / Genoa across the Netherlands , Germany , Switzerland and Italy . A considerable increase in the volume of goods is also expected around 2017 in the course of the opening of the Lötschberg base tunnel and the Gotthard base tunnel . CODE24 was therefore intended to increase the transport capacity for both freight and passenger transport .
The project involved not only authorities at all levels, but also commercial enterprises of all sizes, social partners and other institutions (such as non-governmental organizations, universities, research institutions, etc.). The results are to be made known to a broad public.
The follow-up project without a time limit is the Interregional Alliance for the Rhine-Alpine Corridor EGTC, founded in April 2015. This EGTC promotes transnational projects with a focus on infrastructure and noise protection from the mouth of the Rhine to the Alps.
