Ca 'Masieri

Ca 'Masieri is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Dorsoduro sestiere with a view of the Grand Canal at the confluence of the Rio di Ca 'Foscari next to the Palazzo Balbi .

history

The palace is the seat of the activities associated with the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (IUAV). Initially, Angelo Masieri entrusted Frank Lloyd Wright with the renovation work , but Wright was unable to devote himself to the task. In 1968 Carlo Scarpa was commissioned to convert the building: due to protests and difficulties, the project was not approved until 1973. The work was carried out by a team of specialists, including the architect Franca Semi and the engineer Maschietto . The facade was left unchanged, but was detached from the floor; the interior was completely turned inside out and a new floor was created. In 1983 the new building was inaugurated. The university's project archive was housed there for a long time, but then IUAV Servizi & Progetti - ISP srl moved back. a, which in 2003 in IUAV Studi & Progetti - ISP srl. was renamed.

description

Its three-story brick facade looks out onto the curve of the Grand Canal; it is characterized by a large number of individual windows and a large portal to the water.
