Location

The action takes place at MJN Air, the smallest airline in the world with only one aircraft: a Lockheed McDonnell 312, identification number Golf Echo Romeo Tango India (G-ERTI), so that the crew affectionately call the aircraft "Gerti". The company name goes back to the divorce of the owner Caroline Knapp-Shappey (Stephanie Cole), in which she received the plane from her ex-husband Gordon Shappey ( Timothy West ) and Gerti was known as "My Jet Now" (German: Well, my Aircraft). Due to the small size of the company, it is often on the brink of finance, so the crew is happy to take on any assignment. The airline is based at the fictional Fitton Airport.

Each episode is named after a different city, which begins with the next letter of the alphabet, mostly it is the flight destination. The episodes were not in alphabetical order, but were published that way.

action

The series is about the everyday working life of MJN Air employees: Carolyn, the owner and stewardess; Copilot Douglas Richardson (Roger Allam), a seasoned pilot fired from Air England after a failed smuggling attempt; Pilot Martin Crieff (Benedict Cumberbatch), who shows enormous enthusiasm for his job, but is not a very talented pilot; and Arthur Shappey (John Finnemore), Carolyn's easily enthusiastic but dull son who works as a steward.

reception

In the "Independent" Nicholas Lezard praised the series, he called "the writing and performances ... exceptional" and suggested the series "deserves an award". Gillian Reynolds of The Daily Telegraph called Cabin Pressure "one of the best written, cast, acted and directed comedies on anywhere."
