Caedmon's Call is an American rock band.

history

Caedmon's Call was founded in 1993 in Houston, Texas by four founding members, Cliff Young, Danielle Glenn, Todd Bragg, and Aaron Tate. Aaron Tate never intended to travel with the band and was "only" active as a songwriter. Derek Webb used to be part of the band too, although he never met all of the band members.

In June 1994, the band recorded their first album called My Calm // Your Storm , which was originally a tape demo recording .

In 1996 the band signed a contract with the defunct Christian label Warner Alliance and produced their album of the same name. At that time, Randy Holsapple joined the band. After the dissolution of the Warner Alliance in 1998, Caedmon's Call signed with Essential Records, which they stayed with until May 2006.

In the summer of 1999 Aric Nitzberg and Randy Holsapple left the band, while Joshua Moore and Jeff Miller became permanent members. In 2003 after the successful release of the album Back Home , Derek Webb left the band to start a solo career.

In the spring of 2004, Andrew Osenga, former lead singer of The Normals, joined the band. Aaron Tate and Derek Webb shared most of the songwriting work up to the album Back Home , whose songs were written by various authors. Randall Goodgame became the band's songwriter in the years that followed. In 2004 Caedmon's Call released their album Share the Well , which was acclaimed but never really hit audiences, radio or retail. The songs on the album Share the Well , written by Randall Goodgame, Andrew Osenga (guitar) and Joshua Moore (keyboard), document the band's journey to India, Brazil and Ecuador and deal with the famine and the rather unknown battle, among other things of the Dalits in India for freedom.

style

The music of Caedmon's Call is called Contemporary Christian . Influences from folk rock as well as alternative rock can be recognized. The contents of their songs are strongly based on the Christian faith. Her songs tell of fictional stories ( Bus Driver ) as well as real experiences that were processed in the songs ( Center Aisle ). Both songs were written by Derek Webb (see below).
