Caemmerer Lenz (until 1998 Caemmerer and Bender) is a German-Swiss partnership with more than 50 lawyers as well as tax consultants , auditors and notaries based in Karlsruhe , Basel and Erfurt .

The law firm was set up in Karlsruhe by Gerhard Caemmerer in the 1950s and grew steadily in the years that followed. In 1998 the merger with the Basel lawyer and notary practice Lenz Iselin Riggenbach took place. The law firm was thus at the forefront of cross-border activities in the triangle between Germany, France and Switzerland.

In 1954 the firm took over the John case. Otto John was President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and was charged with treason. John, who was suspected of spying for East Berlin, was imprisoned in the FRG after returning from a trip to the GDR. The law firm also represented Richard Schmid, who was sued by Spiegel for insult. The firm's founder, Gerhard Caemmerer, was known as a "Southwest German prominent lawyer". Due to other spectacular mandates, which were looked after by Caemmerer's son Hans Caemmerer, among others, the firm was one of the leading names in the early Federal Republic.

Over the years, the law firm has developed a special reputation in banking and capital market law, but also in public law. In 2002 the firm successfully represented a pharmacist before the Federal Constitutional Court, whereupon the Sunday opening ban that had existed since 1956 was overturned. In 2011 the firm represented the Deutsche Bausparkasse Badenia . In 2014 he represented the law firm Eric Sarasin, Ex Deputy Head of the Swiss Bank J. Safra Sarasin AG , in the Swiss mutual legal assistance proceedings. The proceedings were later dropped in Germany. In the previous year, the law firm was on the Credit Suisse recommendation list after the state of Rhineland-Palatinate bought a tax data CD . The FOCUS law firm list ranks Caemmerer Lenz among Germany's top commercial law firms in the area of banking law based on an independent data collection. The law firm is also listed in The Legal 500 Germany.
