Treasure Pastry Shop
The Schatz-Konditorei is located in the so-called Schatz-Durchhaus in Salzburg , which leads from Getreidegasse 3 A to Universitätsplatz 16. The traditional confectionery was founded in 1880 by Carl Schatz (1849-1904) and is considered to this day a family through the company treasury by House pastry E.Winkler GmbH performed. The café that is attached to the pastry shop is one of the smallest in town.
The Schatz family originally came from Constance . Josef Schatz, a journeyman turner , came to Salzburg on March 25, 1826. His Salzburg master, Josef Koreller, he could Drechsler meet same buy from. In 1836 he and his wife Klara bought the house on Getreidegasse. After their death, the house passed to Josef Schatz the Younger. His brother C (K) arl Schatz from his father's second marriage founded the pastry shop. After Carl Schatz's death in 1904, August Mayer took over the pastry shop, which after his father's death was continued by his sons Wolfgang and Robert Mayer with their mother. However, the sons died very young and so the mother Ilse Mayer continued to run the pastry shop until it was taken over by Erich Winkler and his wife Helene in 1983. Erich Winkler, who won numerous prizes in competitions, was also the guild master of the Salzburg confectioners from 2000 to 2010 .
The business portal in the listed building dates back to the founding days of the pastry shop and the interior, which consists of turned tables with round marble tops and bentwood chairs, was made according to plans by Jakob Ceconi . A gargoyle with a lion's head comes from the early days of the café.
