Cahit Aral

Hüseyin Cahit Aral (* 1927 in Elazığ ; † November 1, 2011 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish politician . He was a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and from 1983 to 1987 in the cabinet of Özal I Minister of Industry and Trade.

Life

Cahit Aral was born in 1927 as the son of elementary school teachers Fatma and Hakkı Aral. He studied mechanical engineering at the İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi .

Cahit Aral has worked in the Turkish industry for several years. He was one of the founders of the Anavatan Partisi (ANAP), which was founded in 1983 after the military coup in 1980 , and entered the Turkish National Assembly in 1983 as a representative for Istanbul. He was Minister for Industry and Trade in Turgut Özal's cabinet .

Aral was remembered for his "Don't worry" while he was drinking a glass of tea in a relaxed manner. He made the statement after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of April 26, 1986, in order to downplay the possible consequences for the people in the Black Sea region, where the large tea plantations of Turkey are also located. For this he was nicknamed " Bekerel Cahit".

Cahit Aral died of heart failure on November 1, 2011 at Florence Nightingale Hospital in Istanbul. He was buried with a state funeral in the Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.
