Cahita

The Cahita are a group of Indian tribes from the Uto-Aztec language family. The Cahita are made up of the tribes Bamoa , Cinaloa , Mayo , Tehueco , Yaqui and Zuaque . They live in southwestern Sonora and northwestern Sinaloa , in Mexico . A smaller group of Yaqui live in the American Southwest . Today there are about 40,000 members of the tribal group.

The Cahita cultivated corn and cotton in the fertile river valleys. In the less favored parts of their country they roamed in small groups as hunters and gatherers .

The Cahita belonged to the North American cultural area of the southwest .
