Caiva

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Caiva was a goddess who was worshiped in Roman times near Gerolstein in the Treveri area . There it is attested once on an inscription at Pelm and Büdesheim . Since sacrificed matron figures were found at her temple , she was definitely a mother goddess .

Place of worship "Juddekirchhof"

A temple was donated to her near Pelm in AD 124 by Marcus Victorius Pollentinus. This appears to have been a place of pilgrimage as the amount of money donated was large. Today the place of worship is popularly called "Juddekirchhof" (Judenkirchhof), but this is based on a misunderstanding, because the name comes from "Joddekirchhoff", i.e. H. "Court around the church (sanctuary) of Jodd", where "Jodd" means "godmother" and the Celtic matrons played the role of Catholic godmothers.
