Cajetanus Březina von Birkenfeld

Cajetanus Březina von Birkenfeld (born November 29, 1709 in Prague , † February 16, 1776 in Osek ) was abbot of the Osek Monastery .

Life

Caietan Brezina von Birkenfeld entered the Osek Monastery in 1723, made religious vows in 1731, studied theology in Prague for two years and became a priest in 1736. Afterwards he was novice and kitchen master until he was elected abbot on September 4, 1749.

During his reign, the Seven Years War fell , in which the monastery suffered incalculable damage through frequent billeting, enormous contributions and two looting. Members of the monastery were taken hostage five times. Despite these unfavorable conditions, Abbot Cajetan had necessary new buildings carried out, including a. the parish church in Alt-Ossegg and Janegg as well as the schools in these two places and in Wtelno (Vtelno). In the last years of his life he still experienced the harbingers of Josefinism , but he no longer saw its full expression. He died on February 16, 1776.
