Anton Bleichsteiner

Anton Bleichsteiner (born January 21, 1879 in Graz , † January 19, 1963 in Vienna ) was an Austrian painter . He mainly painted impressionistic and maritime landscapes, as well as genre scenes .

Life

Anton Bleichsteiner studied medicine at the universities of Munich and Graz and received his doctorate in 1903. Parallel to his medical studies, he studied at the art academies in Munich with Hugo von Habermann , H. Gröher and Heinrich Knirr , as well as at the Dresden Art Academy .

Initially, Bleichsteiner worked as a ship's doctor in the merchant navy. From 1909 to 1918 he was with the Austrian Navy, where he also worked as a war painter. He then completed several years of training as a dentist in the Eisenberg jaw station in Vienna and then worked as a dentist (numerous publications in the specialist press). After his training he was hardly artistically active. In his free time he turned to sporting activities such as skiing, sailing and folding boat tours and traveled through Europe to Syria and Egypt.

In 1907 he was represented for the first time in the Hagenbund . From 1909 to 1913 he was a member of the Hagenbund and a member of the Styrian Artists' Cooperative. His painting Mitterburg in Istrien (1915. Oil on canvas, 45 X 65 cm, today in the J. Paul Getty Museum ) was originally part of the art collection of the Invalidenfonds ( Kuk War Ministry , War Welfare Office).
