The focus is on painting and sculpture. Together with other artists' associations, the association built the Künstlerhaus Graz . From the beginning it was decided that a spring and an autumn exhibition would be held, the latter being an annual exhibition for the full members in the library of the old university . In 1902 the association received financial support from the city of Graz for the first time in the amount of 400 kroner, from 1903 onwards, due to the public interest in the exhibitions, 600 kroner. Ferdinand Pamberger , also a member, made the first exhibition possible in Vienna in 1903 and the first exhibition in Brunn am Gebirge that same year. From 1903, the silver medals donated by the City of Graz were also awarded as part of the annual exhibition. In 1904, the painter Johann Victor Krämer, a member of the association, made an exhibition possible in the Vienna Secession, and it was also exhibited for the first time in Linz . From 1905 to 1924 the annual exhibition took place in the right wing of the State Museum in Neutorgasse . In 1906 they participated in the “Austrian Exhibition in London” with 23 works by 13 members. There was no annual exhibition during the First World War . From 1917 to 1958 the association was called Genossenschaft Bildender Künstler Steiermarks (GbKSt). In 1923, more than 20 members exhibited in the Kunsthaus Brakl in Munich . 14 artists of the cooperative founded the Künstlerbund Graz on April 27, 1925 . The 25th anniversary was celebrated with an anniversary show in the Künstlerhaus Vienna . On July 30, 1938, the associations were forced to dissolve. In a bomb attack on the club archive in November 1941, numerous records from the years up to 1939 were lost.

After the Second World War , the dissolution of the cooperative was canceled upon application to the provincial governorate. Under the provisional name “ Association of Styrian Artists ”, 60 artists met to prepare for the first exhibition after the end of the war, which took place from October 22nd to October 28th. August Rantz became president of the cooperative, which was re-established in 1946 .
