Josef Stoitzner (* February 1884 in Vienna ; † July 6, 1951 in Bramberg im Pinzgau , Land Salzburg ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist .

Life

The offspring of a family of artists (his father was the respected landscape painter Konstantin Stoitzner ), studied graphics with Anton von Kenner at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna with Franz Rumpler from 1906 to 1908 .

From 1905 Stoitzner worked as an art teacher. From 1916–1919 he taught landscape painting, succeeding Tina Blau, at the Vienna Women's Academy , from 1922 he was a specialist inspector for secondary schools, and from 1932–1934 he was also a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Stoitzner was a member of the Vienna Secession (from 1909) and the Wiener Künstlerhaus (from 1939). He painted landscapes, still lifes , interiors and also worked graphically ( lithography and color woodcut ).

Josef Stoitzner remained committed to mood impressionism throughout his life ; his early or late winter landscapes are very characteristic, in which precisely executed branches of bare trees contrasts with the soft lightness of patches of snow and a clear evening sky. Stoitzner's works are owned by the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere and the Wien Museum , among others .
