Robert Russ

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Robert Russ (born June 8, 1847 in Vienna ; † March 16, 1922 ibid) was an Austrian painter who is counted among the mood impressionists.

Life

Robert Russ was the son of the painter Franz Russ. His brother Franz Seraph Russ was a portrait and genre painter. Russ studied under Albert Zimmermann , Rudolf Ribarz , Eugen Jettel , Adolf Ditscheiner and Emil Jakob Schindler . Through the first international art exhibition in Munich in 1869 he got to know the painting of Rousseau and Diaz de la Pena and allowed their style to flow into his work. The German realists also had an influence. Finding his own “handwriting” or his own painterly style was very important to him. Due to the pointillism- like, spotty application of paint, his painting has a strong recognition value. His work includes landscapes for the Vienna Burgtheater and the Natural History Museum.
