Anton Marussig (born November 20, 1868 in Graz , Austria-Hungary ; † November 2, 1925 there ) was an Austrian landscape , portrait , figure and genre painter and illustrator .

Life

Anton Marussig, son of a magistrate, was a student at the Landscape Drawing Academy in Graz under Hermann von Königsbrunn . In Munich at the Academy of Fine Arts with Gabriel von Hackl , Wilhelm von Lindenschmit and Alexander von Liezen-Mayer . At the 1904 annual exhibition of the Styrian Association of Fine Artists in Graz, he was awarded the State Prize for Styrian Artists. In 1906 he received the city of Graz's silver medal. From 1907 he was a teacher at the Technical University and the State Art School in Graz. Marussig also worked as an industrial painter. In 1912 he was awarded the Golden State Medal. In 1913 he became a member of the Austrian Association of Artists. Anton Marussig exhibited in Graz, in the Vienna Künstlerhaus , in the Austrian Association of Artists, in the Munich Art Association , in the Rudolfinum in Prague and in London . During the First World War he worked as a war painter.
