Hermann Freiherr von Königsbrunn (born March 1, 1823 in Radkersburg in Styria , † February 16, 1907 in Graz ) was an Austrian landscape painter .

Hermann Reichsfreiherr von Königsbrunn, who came from an Austrian noble family ( noble diploma, Vienna from 1685; Reichsfreiherrenstand , Vienna 1716), was born on March 1, 1823 in Radkersburg in Styria. First he studied in Graz , often visited the studio of Josef Kuwasseg (1841) and finally continued his studies at the Maria Theresian Academy in Vienna . In 1845 he initially entered the civil service.

From 1848 he turned to painting and studied with Leopold Rottmann (1812–1881), lecturer at the art academy in Munich . Here Hermann von Königsbrunn mainly copied landscapes after Professor Eduard Schleich (1812–1874), who also worked at the Art Academy . In 1849 he stayed in Graz for a short time, went to Salzburg in 1850 and joined the landscape painter Johann Fischbach (1797–1871). After a short stay, he returned to Graz around 1851 as a travel companion of the Styrian industrialist Franz Ritter von Friedau the Elder . J. and the zoologist Ludwig Karl Schmarda (1819–1908) embark on a journey (expedition) to Greece , Egypt and Ceylon .

In 1865 he applied for an advertised position at the Graz University of Technology . Although he received the majority of the professors' votes, Heinrich Bank was preferred to him. In 1868 he became a professor at the Steiermärkische Landeskunstschule (Landscape Drawing Academy in Graz), where he was a popular teacher until 1892. Marie Egner , Ernestine von Kirchsberg , Anton Marussig and Alfred Zoff were among his students .
