Cala Mitjana ('Middle Bay') is a small bay with a sandy beach in the northeast of the Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located 8 kilometers northeast of the small town of Artà .
Location and description
Located in the northeastern part of the municipality of Artà, in the area of sa Duaia , the bay of Artà can be reached via the road towards Cala Torta . The ambience of the beach was affected by a road around the beach until 2008. At the end of 2008 / beginning of 2009, the dune system on the bay was renatured by removing the road on the south side of the beach, only the road on the bank of the western side to the neighboring bay of Cala Estreta and a rainwater drainage channel remained.
The poorly maintained access road to Cala Mitjana leads through a pine forest that extends down to the beach. There was a small beach bar that was only open in the main season and was demolished before the renaturation. An alternative is the beach bar in the neighboring bay of Cala Torta to the east , which can be reached on foot in around 10 minutes via the cliffs.
Access
Coming from Artà take the MA-15 road towards Cala Rajada , then follow the signs to Cala Torta . At the junction on the right to Cala Torta, choose the straight course of the road, then right to Cala Mitjana , which, true to its name, lies between the two nearby bays of Cala Estreta and Cala Torta . The direct access has been restricted for some time by large road holes and is only recommended for off-road vehicles.
