Beaches and bays in Mallorca |
Cala Torta ('cake bay') is a small bay with a wide sandy beach in the northeast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located 8 kilometers northeast of the town of Arta where the River shortly before uniting torrents Torrent de na Sorda (also Torrent de sa Font of Pi ) and Torrent of Castellot , perform the rarely water.
Location and description
Located in the north-eastern part of the municipality of Artà, in the area of sa Duaia , Cala Torta can be reached from Artà via a country road that leads through untouched nature. It is the easternmost bay of the municipality, which is immediately connected to the west by Cala Mitjana and Cala Estreta . The construction of hotels was planned on this stretch of coast, but this failed due to a lack of financial resources and the scarcity of drinking water in the area. Today no more building permits are issued there. The stretch of coast is as good as uninhabited.
The beach of Cala Torta is less suitable for children as it drops deep into the sea. It is not cleaned, which results in seaweed deposits . The waves are moderate, rarely strong, and dangerous currents can occur. The bay is occasionally monitored by lifeguards . The boat traffic is minimal. On the beach, people sometimes swim naked .
The poor condition of the access roads up to 2005 was probably the reason for the lack of mass tourism in this bay, but the influx of visitors has increased significantly recently. The road from Artà, 12 kilometers away, was renovated in early 2006, with the exception of the direct access to the beach. At Cala Torta there is a small beach bar that was open in the summer months but had to close in July 2019. It should be dismantled and replaced by a seasonally degradable chiringuito . Above the bay, at a distance of 1.5 kilometers, lies the Sa Duaia manor house on a slope with access to the road , where rooms are rented and a restaurant has been set up.
Access
Coming from Artà take the MA-15 towards Cala Rajada , then behind the petrol station follow the signs to Cala Torta on the left . After about 10 kilometers, the exit to the bay is signposted to the right.
The Cala Torta is also on a path from Cala Mesquida reached out to the west, on the shortly before reaching the Cala Torta north of Puig Rodó the municipal boundary between Capdepera and Arta is exceeded.
