Location of the Caland Canal

The Caland Canal runs from the mouth of the Meuse near the Hoek van Holland parallel to the Nieuwe Waterweg and is the access route to the industrial areas in Europoort . The canal ends in Brittanniehafen south of Rozenburg , an important transshipment point for automobiles. The Rosenburg lock has been connected to the Hartel Canal since April 19, 1971 .

The canal was named after Pieter Caland , the former chief engineer of the Nieuwe Waterweg .

The Rijksweg 15 underpasses in Roseburg with the mayor Thomassen the Calandkanal. The tunnel was built because the Caland Bridge had to be opened to ship traffic very often, which led to major traffic jams. In the Brittanniehafen area there are huge windscreens on the shore .
