Caldecotte Lake

Caldecotte is a district in the Parish of Walton , Milton Keynes in the ceremonial county of Buckinghamshire , which includes the site of an ancient village of the same name. In addition, the Caldecotte Lake, which is important to compensate for the water runoff on the River Ouzel, is largely located in this district. The lake is used by a number of sports clubs for rowing and other water sports activities.

The name Caldecotte is quite common in England and comes from Old English and means "cold cottage", which meant a resting place for travelers and other strangers on the road. The original Northampton to London road passed nearby, just a short distance from its junction with Watling Street , which had been an important route since Roman times . The settlement fell after the road from Northampton to London was relocated in 1728, so that it was led through Broughton and Woburn to the junction with Watling Street in Hockliffe .

Caldecotte should not be confused with the hamlet of Caldecote, very close to Newport Pagnell .
