Caldelas is a place and a former municipality in northern Portugal . The municipality belongs to the Amares district in the Braga district and had an area of 4.1 km² and 872 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).
On September 29, 2013, the parishes of Caldelas, Paranhos and Sequeiros were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Caldelas, Sequeiros e Paranhos . Caldelas is the seat of this newly formed municipality.
In Caldelas there are warm healing springs, which were probably already known in Roman times. The writer Alice Vieira , who temporarily lived here as a child, was inspired by these sources for her work Águas de Verão .
