Caliber (musician)
Caliber is the stage name of the Northern Irish drum and bass music producer Dominick Martin . Active as a DJ and musician since 1995 , he is one of the most productive producers in drum and bass history to date with ten albums published since 2001 as well as numerous EPs and over 60 self-published singles.
With his more melodic style, inspired by jazz , funk and soul , he is one of the leading representatives of the drum and bass variation Liquid Funk .
Popular tracks that can also be viewed as audio samples for Liquid Funk are Drop it down (2004), Mr. Majestic (2004), which he co-produced with High Contrast , and Even If (2010).
Life
Born in Belfast , Northern Ireland , he received classical music training on several instruments. In 1995 he began to produce drum and bass and released (from 1998 at the latest) on the now closed label Quadrophonic . He also began studying art at the University of Ulster .
After the turn of the millennium he came into contact with DJ Fabio , who coined the term Liquid Funk for his more harmonious form of drum and bass . Caliber was signed to Fabio's Creative Source label . In 2003 Martin founded his own label, Signature Records , with which he published all of his productions from then on. He also ran the Soul: R label together with Marcus Intalex .
