The Calypso depth ( Greek Φρέαρ των Οινουσσών ) is a marine deep in the Mediterranean and, with 5267 m below the sea its deepest point is.

In the Ionian Basin , part of the Ionian Sea , the Calypso Deep is located southwest of the Greek Peloponnese peninsula , about 58 km west-southwest of the coastal town of Methoni at latitude 36 ° 34 'north and longitude 21 ° 08' east .

To the south of the Aegean island arc , the African continental plate slides under the Eurasian . The resulting subduction is the reason for the depth of the Mediterranean in this area.
