François Antoine Camille Comte Durutte , Count of Ypres (born October 15, 1803 in Ypres , † September 24, 1881 in Paris ), was a French music theorist and composer.

The son of General Joseph Durutte prepared himself for a military career. He attended the Lycée Louis-le-Grand in Paris and from 1823 to 1825 the École polytechnique . However, after the death of his father in 1827 he turned to music.

He devised a mathematical music theory, in which he referred to the work of Vronsky and which he presented in the writings Esthétique musicale (1855) and Technie harmonique (1876). His theories proved to be sterile for practice and were only sporadically, e. B. by Edgar Varèse .

In addition, Durutte composed several operas, church music and chamber music.
