Camillo Mastrocinque

Camillo Mastrocinque (born May 11, 1901 in Rome , † April 23, 1969 there ) was an Italian film director , screenwriter and actor .

Life

Mastrocinque spent many years in France, where he went to deepen his architecture studies and then worked as a theater dramaturg and assistant director for film; since the 1920s he worked in the film industry. After returning to his native country, it was not until 1937 that he directed it himself. Before his retirement he made about 60 films, including several comedies ; he often worked here with the comedian Totò . Towards the end of his career, he also made two horror films and directed for television. Occasionally he was also engaged as an actor (for example by Pietro Germi or Lucio Fulci ).

Mastrocinque won the 1941 Venice Film Festival prize for the film I Mariti . A street in Rome is named after him.
