Camp Mackall is an airfield ( Army Airfield ) and a training facility of the US Army west of Fort Bragg in the US state of North Carolina , the headquarters of the XVIII Airborne Corps , the 82nd Airborne Division , of the US Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) and the Special Forces .

The base serves primarily for the selection and training of the special forces and the SERE training of all special operations units of the Army. Organizationally, it belongs to Fort Bragg.

Surname

On February 8, 1943, General Order Number 6 was named Camp Mackall in honor of Private John Thomas (Tommy) Mackall, who served as a paratrooper for the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment during Operation Torch , the 1942 Allied invasion of North Africa French fighter plane was fatally wounded.

Facilities
