Campion

Campion was a small settlement in Western Australia that was close to the Rabbit-Proof Fence in what is now the Western Australian Wheat Belt region . The settlement was located 271 kilometers northeast of Perth .

The name of the place goes back to William Campion (1870-1951), who was appointed governor of Western Australia in 1924.

The exact time when the settlement was founded is not known. It was founded by former soldiers from the First World War who settled there as part of a state employment program. Since the early 1920s there was a commercial shop in the village. In 1925 a school was built at Campion Dam . From 1927 until 1957 the place could be reached by rail.

In November 1932 the place became known in Australia, as the first shots in the so-called Emu War were fired in the vicinity .

It is not known when the settlement was abandoned. It's a ghost town . The salt lake Lake Campion and the Lake Campion Nature Reserve are reminiscent of them .
