William Campion
Sir William Robert Campion (born July 3, 1870 in London , England , † January 2, 1951 in Hassocks , England) was a conservative British politician and Governor of Western Australia .
Life
After studying at Eton College and New College , Campion first worked as a stockbroker on the London Stock Exchange . In 1894 he married Katherine Mary Byron. From 1910 to 1924 he was a member of the House of Commons for the Lewes constituency . During the First World War , Campion served as a colonel and took part, among other things, in the Battle of Gallipoli . He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order .
In 1924, Campion was named governor of Western Australia. His tenure was one of political stability and he worked constructively with all political parties.
In 1931 he returned to England. In the 1930s he was the chairman of several Australian gold mining companies. He died in Hassocks, Sussex, in 1951 .
