Harry Barron

Sir Harry Barron KCMG , CVO (born August 11, 1847 in Denmark Hill , Surrey , England , † March 27, 1921 in Weybridge , England) was a British major general and governor of the colonies of Tasmania and Western Australia .

Life

The son of Charles Barron and his wife Elizabeth attended the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich . In 1867 he was promoted to captain in the artillery . After a steady career, he reached the rank of major general in 1904 and was responsible for artillery units in the Thames area and later on Malta . In 1877 he married Clara Emily, with whom he had a daughter.

Barron was Governor of Tasmania from 1909 to 1913. Although he was relatively inexperienced in day-to-day politics, he managed a largely sovereign term in office. Immediately after his time in Tasmania, he was appointed governor of Western Australia and remained so until 1917.

Barron eventually returned to England and retired in Weybridge. He died there on March 27, 1921.
