Stanley Burbury
Sir Stanley Burbury (born December 3, 1909 in Perth , Australia , † April 24, 1995 in Hobart , Tasmania ) was an Australian lawyer and governor of Tasmania.
Life
Burbury studied law at the University of Tasmania and then practiced as a lawyer in Hobart. In 1952 he was appointed Attorney General ( Solicitor General ). From 1956 to 1973 he was Chairman of the Supreme Court of Tasmania ( Supreme Court of Tasmania ).
In 1973 he was proposed as governor of Tasmania by Prime Minister Eric Reece . Burbury held office until 1982. He was the first governor of Tasmania to be born in Australia.
Burbury died in Hobart on April 24, 1995. The reservoir Lake Burbury was named after him.
