Catherine Ann "Kate" Warner (born July 14, 1948 in Hobart ) is an Australian lawyer and since 2014 Governor of Tasmania .

Life

Warner was born in Hobart on July 14, 1948. After attending St. Michael's Collegiate School , she began to study law at the University of Tasmania , which she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws in 1970 . In 1971 she was admitted to the bar and solicitor and worked under Stanley Burbury at the Supreme Court of Tasmania . In 1978 she received her Master of Laws and embarked on a career as a scientist at the University of Tasmania. In 1996 she was appointed professor.

Following the death of Peter Underwood , Warner was proposed for governor by Tasmanian Prime Minister Will Hodgman in November 2014 and sworn in in December.

Warner is married and has two children.
