Francis Burt (politician, 1918)

Sir Francis Theodore Page Burt (born June 14, 1918 - September 8, 2004 ) was an Australian lawyer and politician. He was Chief Justice in Western Australia from 1977 to 1988 and Governor of that state from 1990 to 1993.

Life

Burt attended Guildford Grammar School and later studied at the University of Western Australia . During the Second World War he served in the Navy and Air Force, the Australian Armed Forces, the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force . In 1941, Burt was admitted as a judge by the Chamber and continued to work in this profession.

politics

Burt was appointed to the Supreme Court Judge in Western Australia in 1969 . He held this position until 1977 when he was appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court , a position he held until 1988 when he resigned. Also since 1977 he was Vice Governor of the State of Western Australia. After the death of Governor Gordon Reid on October 26, 1989, Burt was appointed as his successor, which he actually was from 1990 onwards. It was only in 1993 that he left this office. When he died in 2004 he was given a state funeral.
