The Brigittenau campus is an association of student residences in the 20th district of Brigittenau in Vienna . With around 1700 residents, the campus is the largest student residence association in Austria . The home sponsor is the Wirtschaftshilfe der Arbeiterstudenten (WIHAST) Association , which, together with the Board of Trustees , manages student residences in Vienna , Sankt Pölten and Wiener Neustadt for the establishment of Adolf Schärf student residences .

The campus

The campus consists of five dormitories that are structurally independent, but are managed centrally by a porter. The homes have their own names and sometimes differ in terms of their furnishings and size.

The 17-story Haus Panorama takes its name from the panorama that can be enjoyed from the balconies and rooms. The other homes got their names from well-known personalities, including the former Austrian Federal President Adolf Schärf and the Minister Hertha Firnberg .

Student self-administration

In contrast to other student residences, there is a student self-administration on the campus , which consists of a home representative and 20 lectures and is run exclusively by students. The units serve on the one hand for self-administration in administrative terms, on the other hand to provide recreational facilities for the home residents.

The home representation

The home representative consists of one home representative and five home representative representatives, who are elected annually at the home assembly. In addition, the control lobbyist and the financial officer sit on this body, who take care of all administrative tasks of self-administration.

The control unit regularly checks all units for their proper activity and finances. The floor representatives are responsible for their respective floors and their residents. They pay attention to the observance of the house rules and take care of problems and concerns of the floor dwellers.

The presentations

The presentations are part of the student self-administration, i.e. are also supervised by students on a voluntary basis. In addition to infrastructures for the home (e.g. computer unit for Internet access in the room), numerous leisure facilities are made available for the home residents:

In addition, the self-administration is trying to make the start a little easier for the newcomers. Therefore, the "Long Night of Speeches" always takes place in October, where all presentations are open. There are also guided tours in both German and English.

Home life

Large events have been taking place on campus for years. Until 2007 the culture days with classical concerts, cabaret and wine tasting were very popular. The campus invasion, which was repeated annually until 2008, was also a fixed date in the student scene. Until 2011, the campus got out of sight. Parties have been held there again since 2011. Outside of the major events, there is a lively exchange between the students. During a communal barbecue or a cozy chat in the cultural room, there are numerous opportunities to meet new people despite the anonymity in a large student residence.

Furthermore, in the open evenings of the presentations, such as billiards, game evenings, poker and the TV room, you meet people with the same interests.
