Müngersdorf campus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Müngersdorf campus is an educational institution in Cologne, whose spiritual educational work is the responsibility of the Opus Dei personal prelature . The sponsor is the Deutsch-Internationale-Kulturverein eV in Cologne. The campus houses a dormitory (International College) for 46 female students, a training center for housekeepers and hotel managers (Domestic Management) and a conference center (Conference Center). A comprehensive educational and leisure program is offered to residents of the Müngersdorf campus, but the conference center also organizes external series of events.

history

The Müngersdorf campus was built in the mid-1960s and goes back to an initiative of the founder of Opus Dei, Josemaría Escrivá . The renovation of the building was officially supported in 2009 with funds from NRW.Bank .

concept

The aim of the International College is "coexistence in the style of an Anglo-Saxon college". In addition to living rooms and various group rooms, the residents have a library, study rooms, a chapel and a fitness room at their disposal. The house promotes an education of Christian character for its residents. The students are obliged to regularly attend so-called educational events, especially on theological topics. The house is run by Hilde Müller, herself a member of Opus Dei. In an interview, Hilde Müller speaks of Opus Dei being like her family. The residents should also feel like family on campus.

In addition to internal events, external series of events also take place in the conference center on campus. It is also a meeting place for university lecturers and experts from business, politics and culture.

The residents of the dormitory do not have the keys to the main entrance door. Instead, there is a gate service, which is carried out by the students themselves. The gate is manned until midnight at the latest. If a student stays away for a longer period, she knows that someone else has to wait for her at the door. It is also noted why the students leave the house.

Library

A well-founded theological education is the declared aim of the institution. There is no literature critical of the church in the house library. The manager, Hilde Müller, says that this has nothing to do with bans, it is only about "a certain protection".
