The valley bridge Nuttlar is a bridge of the federal highway 46 over the valley of the Schlebornbach (tributary of the Ruhr ) near Nuttlar in the Sauerland . With a height of 115 meters, it is the highest bridge in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Building history

The bridge is located in the Velmede - Nuttlar construction section . The provisional end of the motorway ( connection Olsberg ) was merged with a feeder to the B 480n near Olsberg , which was built at the same time. The groundbreaking for this section of the motorway was on September 4th, 2009.

At the beginning of March 2013 the pillars of the bridge were erected; only the second bridge span from the west still had work to be done. The superstructure was built from the east, where the construction road from Antfeld was. At the beginning of July 2013, four of the five superstructures were built.

The superstructure was completed on September 27, 2013 and the bridge had its final length of 660 meters.

The commissioning took place in November 2019, after the feeder to the penultimate connection Bestwig / Nuttlar was built.

construction

The bridge, which is curved in plan, is 660 meters long. It has seven fields with spans of 77.00 m + 95.00 m + 95.00 m + 115.00 m + 97.50 m + 97.50 m + 83.00 m. The width is 28.60 meters. The superstructure is a steel composite structure .

Six pairs of pillars were erected. The pillars are a maximum of 108 meters high. They are slightly inclined in pairs and connected by crossbars.

The Schlebornbach is bridged at its highest point at 115 meters. This is the highest bridge in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Trivia

On September 29, 2019, a running and hiking competition took place as part of the so-called “A46-Run” in which the distances of 5, 10 and 20 km led directly over the valley bridge. The organizer reported 1,922 participants across all competitions.
