Canadian Government Railways
Canadian Government Railways (CGR) was the official name for the state railways of Canada from 1914 to 1918 . Founded on August 1, 1914, it united several railway companies already owned by the state as well as some smaller private railways in economic need. These were in detail:
- Intercolonial Railway
- Moncton and Buctouche Railway
- National Transcontinental Railway
- International Railway of New Brunswick
- New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island Railway
- Prince Edward Island Railway (gauge 1067 mm)
In addition, on May 20, 1918 in New Brunswick :
- Elgin and Havelock Railway
- St. Martins Railway
- Salisbury and Albert Railway
- York and Carleton Railway
In addition, on November 20, 1918, the CGR took over the bankrupt Canadian Northern Railway, including the Hudson Bay Railway . A month later, on December 20, 1918, the government converted the CGR into the Canadian National Railways , but it was not officially established until June 6, 1919.
