Canadian Oil Sands Trust generates a large part of its sales by participating in the Canadian joint venture Syncrude . Syncrude extracts synthetic crude oil from the Athabasca oil sands in the Canadian province of Alberta. In 2010, Canadian Oil Sands controlled 36.74 percent of Syncrude's shares.
