Litigation for disseminating a Facebook post

In November 2013, the economist and human rights activist Carlos Nuno Castel-Branco published an open letter to the then President Armando Guebuza via Facebook . In this he accused the president of enriching himself at the expense of the country and of wanting to lead the country "into fascism". The letter was widely spread on social networks. Canal de Moçambique printed the letter, as did other opposition media ( @Verdade and MediaFax ). As a result, the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Mozambique brought charges against Castel-Branco, but also against Fernando Veloso, editor-in-chief of Canal de Moçambique , and Fernando Mbanze, editor-in-chief of the MediaFax newspaper, for crimes threatening the security of the state. The criminal court of the district of Kampfumo finally acquitted Castel-Branco and the co-defendants Mbanze on September 16, 2015 and saw the criticism of Castel-Branco and the dissemination of it covered by the freedom of expression guaranteed in the constitution. Veloso, the editor-in-chief of Canal de Moçambique, was abroad during the trial.
