Caner Taslaman (born 1968 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish religious scholar, philosopher and author.

Life

Taslaman first studied sociology at Bogazici University in Istanbul . In his studies, he focused on areas such as anthropology, sociology of religion, and the relationship of religion to modern science. At the Institute for Philosophy and Religion at Marmara University , he received his master's degree with a thesis on the connection between Big Bang theory, philosophy and theology; the doctoral degree was awarded to him at the same institute for his dissertation on the connection between the theory of evolution, philosophy and theology. After writing the book on the connection of quantum theory with philosophy and theology, he became a lecturer. He also received his second doctorate from the Faculty of Political Science at Istanbul University for his work Islam in Turkey During Globalization .

Caner Taslaman appears regularly on Turkish TV shows in which he preaches a Koran-oriented Islam. He is convinced that many hadith in popular belief are only ascribed to the Prophet. He belongs to the movement of Koran-oriented Muslims ( Mehmet Okuyan , Emre Dorman , Abdülaziz Bayındır ), who establish the compatibility of modern science with Islam. Taslaman understands an "enlightened Islam" only as the enlightenment of the people and the revival of the one Islam, as in the time of the Prophet Mohammed, and not as a discussion of the contents of faith.

Taslaman has taught at internationally renowned universities such as Cambridge , Harvard and Oxford . Today he teaches at the Philosophical Faculty of the Yildiz Teknik University in Istanbul . He wrote a large number of books which are freely accessible in many languages on his homepage (www.canertaslaman.com).
