The Cantacuzino Palace is located at Calea Victoriei number 141 in Bucharest , Romania . Since 1956 it has housed the George Enescu Memorial Museum.

history

The building was built by the architect John D. Berindey in neo- baroque style for the former President of the Council of Ministers Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino , who was nicknamed “Nababul” because of his fabulous wealth. After “Nababul's” death he bequeathed the building to his son Michael, who died in 1929 and left it to his wife Maruca, who married George Enescu in December 1939 .

In 1956 a memorial museum was set up in the castle in honor of the greatest Romanian composer George Enescu, which has been called the National Museum George Enescu since 1990 .

description

The building, which is a listed building, has four levels: a basement , a ground floor with arched windows and stone banisters, an upper floor with French balconies and a richly decorated attic. The facade is dominated by the entrance portal, which is covered by a shell-shaped glass roof, to which a marble staircase lined with two stone lions leads up.
